SYRIA. - Armed rebels attacked a Christian village in western Syria, in Homs
province, killing all of its Christian residents.
Al-Duvair a Christian village outside Homs near the Lebanese border, was
attacked by armed rebels belonging to the Free Syrian Army, resulting in a
slaughter of all its residents civilians, including women and children , as

Coptic Churches in Egypt suspended Masses for the first time in 1600 years
CAIRO, 22 Aug. 13 / 3:32 pm ( CNA ). - For the first time in 1600 years has
taken the decision to suspend the Sunday Masses at the escalation of attacks
against Christians in more than 60 places in Egypt between churches , convents,
schools and institutions, committed by the self-styled "Muslim Brotherhood".
"We will pray at the monastery on Sunday for the first time in 1600 years," said
the newspaper al-Masry al-YoumLotfySelwanes priests of the Monastery of the
Virgin Mary and IBRAM Monastery in Degla, south of Minya.
Father Lotfy said Muslims destroyed the premises in which it is the monastery
and also has three churches, one of which is archaeological heritage. "One of
the extremists wrote on the wall of the monastery: 'donate this to the martyrs
of the mosque'" he said.
Coptic Christians are about 10 percent of Egypt's total population reaching more
than 80 million inhabitants. This community has always suffered persecution by
Muslim extremists. In these days, violence has intensified in the wake of
violence between the factions who support and those who are against the deposed
President Mohamed Morsi.
